On the weekend of Saturday, 28 October, Brewery Tearooms was transformed into an ‘Alice in Wonderland’ woodland grotto for our tenth annual fundraiser. Blessed with the best weather of the week, with no rain and a little sun, our Mad Hatters Tea Party ‘theme’ proved popular with a steady stream of visitors throughout the day, and staff and volunteers dazzled in amazing costumes.
Although funds are still coming in, we collected a record amount on the Saturday through the events in the garden, the raffle and the auction.
The weather forecast for Sunday, the day of the charity rides, was poor and resulted in a number of riders to pulling out of the event. Several stalwart riders still registered on Sunday and completed the various routes. Frustratingly, the weather was not as bad as forecast with a few would-be participants wishing they had ridden as planned.
The fundraising activities continued into the following week with a charity Clubbercise at the Walkern Sports & Social club, which raised further funds for our chosen charity Cancer Hair Care.
Throughout our collecting period during this quarter, with the events over the Charity Weekend and beyond, between us and Cancer Hair Care we will raise in excess of £5.4k for which we are truly grateful.
The beneficiaries of our efforts are Cancer Hair Care (charity reg’ no – 1145258) and Macmillan (charity reg’ no – 261017)
So, a BIG thanks to all of you who have supported us, not only by visiting us over the weekend and at our other charity events, but also the volunteers who have given their time freely and anyone who donated a raffle prize, said ‘keep the change’ or baked a cake. Last, but not least, to team Brewery (you know who you are!).
You’ve all been amazing, a heartfelt ‘THANK YOU’.
Ps – I was only joking when I said ‘off with your heads’!

The Queen & King of Herts invite you to a giant charity Mad-Hatters Tea-Party at Brewery Tearooms
It’s that time of year again and we’ll be hosting our 10th annual charity fundraising weekend on Saturday, 28th and Sunday, 29th September (Macmillan Day and 4C’s charity bike rides). As per previous years, all proceeds from these events will be donated, on a 50/50 basis, to Macmillan Cancer Support (charity no 261017) and Cancer Hair Care (charity no 1145258).
On the Saturday will be celebrating our 10th annual charity event by hosting our very own Mad Hatters themed Macmillan Coffee Day, 10.00am -4.30pm. So we step through the looking glass, fall down the rabbit hole and explore Alice’s adventures with us.
We’ll have the garden open, weather permitting, and a variety of attractions including bric-a-brac stall, our legendary raffle and auction, home baked goods & produce sale, and a host of Alice in Wonderland inspired surprises. We will also be awarding a prize for the most authentic Alice in Wonderland costumes!
If you have any home grown produce or good quality bric-a-brac, please drop off at the Tearooms during the weeks before. Please remember we rely on your attendance and the donations to make this event a continued success.
On the Sunday we are hosting the annual Four C’s Coffee Morning Bike Rides, with registration from 10am and rides from 10.30am.
