‘Call & Collect’ and ‘Home Delivery’ services.

We are pleased to announce we are currently offering our home delivery service and will be offering our ‘Call & Collect’ service as of Tuesday, 12 May.

To make an order for either service, please call us on 01438 861930 the day before. If we do not answer, just leave a message and we’ll call back asap as we are re-starting with a small team.

We will do our best to accommodate your needs, but we will be operating with strict time slots for both deliveries and collections. We will not be working with cash, but payments can be made by card or online at the time of ordering.

The premises will not be open, and we will only be able to serve by pre-order. Please do not attend the Tearooms if you have not pre-ordered.

We will be using our newly built delivery hatch to pass out the ‘Call & Collect’ orders. This will avoid any face to face contact. We will only be opening for limited periods and both services will evolve. We will always, both inside and out, work within Government Guidelines and social distancing rules. As part of these precautions we have fitted a hand sanitizer inside our lobby area for the use of customers utilising our collection service.

Everyone’s health is of primary importance, so please be prompt if you have booked a slot and please do not remain near the premises once you have collected your order. We have removed all outside seating and tables until it is deemed safe to re-instate them. Home deliveries will be made contactless.

We trust you understand our caution and will work with us gradually phasing back our precious family business. Should there be sufficient demand we will introduce a booking system on our website.

General details and pricing of the two services are attached. These will also be available on our website.

If in doubt, just call us!

Somewhere over the rainbow….

(Phase 1 of our reopening)

Dear Friends,

Thank you for all the lovely messages we’ve received while we’ve been closed. As always , your support and encouragement mean a lot to us. We’ve missed the sounds of your laughter and chatter in the Tearooms and can’t wait to see you all again, and hear all your stories of this unprecedented period.

As you will be aware, we’ve been constantly busy while closed and part of our work has been eagerly monitoring current guidelines and considering phases of re-opening. We are pleased to announce that it is our intention over the next few weeks to roll out a home delivery scheme and a take-away service, initially through pre-booking collection slots.

We are re-configuring the layout of the Tearooms to facilitate these new services and enable us, our team and customers to remain safe/operate at no additional risk. An example of this is a new serving hatch at the front of the Tearooms, through which we will be able to deliver pre-booked take-aways while maintaining social distancing and avoiding the need to enter the premises.

We will be monitoring the Government’s guidelines to be announced next week and post further detail of the first phase of our re-opening thereafter.

At this stage, we envisage our home delivery service will include Afternoon High Tea, home baked whole cakes, traybakes & our legendary scones. Our pre-bookable take-out service will initially offer teas and coffees (full selection from our extensive drinks menu ), freshly made scones and a choice of home baked cakes and traybakes.

It is our intention to develop the scope of our offering as we go. Further, we will involve more of our team as demand builds. We will not, however, compromise on safety and everyone’s health comes first. Our mantra from the beginning has been to do the ‘right thing’ and we continue with that in mind.

If you feel these services are of interest or you have any suggestions then please comment or message us, we would love to hear from you.

Take care and keep safe. x

Cakes for Champions – Appeal

image0 (7)

We are part of an initiative to supply treats to the NHS and help the staff get through their long shifts. We made our first supply last week and they were truly grateful. We have received many comments and messages of thanks; an example is above.

To help all three businesses involved in this, ‘not for profit’ project, cover the costs of the ingredients, we are launching an appeal and the link is listed below.

A number of you have shown an interest in donating and helping us keep this going for as long as the NHS need us, so a HUGE thank you for all the anticipated support. At the end of the project any surplus funds will be donated to NHS Covid-19 related causes.

Take care & stay safe.

Cake for Champions

Cakes for Champions

This week we have been working on a ‘not for profit’ project, in conjunction with one of our lovely customers and our favourite artisan baker, to help our NHS frontline staff.

During their long shifts the staff are limited to where they can take their breaks and are unable to use the normal food outlets in the hospital. We are, therefore, supplying treats such as brownies, our lovely fruit oaty slices etc.

The supply is a minimum order of 100 pieces, which will be supplied between us. These will be delivered by our lovely customer to the Lister Hospital today via their commercial hub.

We will continue this on a weekly basis for as long as the Health Service benefit from the treats.

It is thanks to all our customers and team that we can supply the treats for the next two to three weeks from existing stock, ingredients and via charity money previously collected.

We will be joined by other partners going forward and to help us all with the cost of ingredients in the weeks to come, we will be launching an appeal under the name of ‘Cakes for Champions’. Any surplus funds will be donated to a related local NHS COVID-19 charity appeal. We’ll release further detail in due course.

We’re so pleased that all of us are helping in some small way.

Stay safe. X

The show must go on!

Dear All,

Just a quick update from all of us here.

As you know we temporarily closed our doors as of Tuesday, 17th March. After much demand we were able to deliver several Mother’s Day High Teas on the day itself. This was a challenge as we had little time to ‘gear up’ for a delivery service and did not want to bring in any of our team in to help in view of current advice. Everyone, however, was supportive and we managed to fulfill the orders through stock ordered before our shutdown. Sarah was busy in the kitchen, while Nigel went out delivering, assisted by Judy (in a separate vehicle!). All the deliveries were made without any social contact or risk to us/customers, and we have had some lovely feedback thanking us for bringing ‘Tea at Home’ from Brewery Tearooms.

Over the last week, we have had many requests for further deliveries and even a take-out service. At this stage, we feel we cannot offer a take-away service from our premises as we will be encouraging social contact and would be very difficult to work within current guidelines on social distancing. Although we can make deliveries without adding to risk, we are concerned we will be using food supplies that may be better used by others in more need. We are, however, happy to supply anything we have in abundance, such as oaty slices, chocolate brownies, carrot cake and scones.

We would hope the food supply situation subsides as we isolate ourselves over the forthcoming weeks.

We still have demand for our gift vouchers, some of which have been purchased for people who work in the NHS and other critical services. In these circumstances, we have offered complimentary drinks for those workers who visit us when we re-open as a little thanks for the incredible work they are doing.

At this stage, we intend to review the situation on a weekly basis and as soon as we can offer any further services, in a safe and responsible environment and within public health guidelines, we will advise.

We have a Tearooms Community WhatsApp Group, which is another channel for us to keep an eye on/check up on each other, offer/request help and generally chat. If you wish to be part of this, please privately message your number.

Most importantly, stay safe.

If you have any queries or need anything just call, we’re not going anywhere for the foreseeable future!

‘Tea at Home‘

As you know, we are disappointed as you are not to be hosting our legendary Mother’s Day Afternoon High Tea event. We are, however, pleased to announce that you do not need to miss out as we are merrily baking away in order to fulfil our new ‘Tea at Home’ service.

The price is £17.50 p/head, to include full Afternoon High Tea, soft drink & a hot drink voucher to be redeemed in the Tearooms & delivery (subject to distance & availability).

This service avoids social contact – delivery to the doorstep & payment via ‘phone.

We are also able to supply our highly popular traybakes (brownies, oaty slice etc), legendary home-baked scones, lemon drizzle cake & victoria sponge (min spend £10).

If you wish to place an order either message your number or call us on 01438 861930.

Keep safe everyone. x

Mother’s Day

We are sure you are as devastated as us over the current situation and the ramifications for us all. Several of you have expressed your sadness at not being able to celebrate Mother’s Day with us during this forthcoming weekend. We all need something to look forward to, so as usual we are offering gift vouchers. As a gift for Mother’s Day and as a thanks for supporting us, we are including a glass of fizz at no extra cost. This applies for any voucher purchased before Sunday.

As you know, we only open on Sundays for special events and when we all get through the current situation, we will organise at least two special Sunday afternoon high tea events. Obviously, you can use the vouchers at any time when we re-open, not just on the event days.

Although our doors are shut, please be assured we are using the time wisely. We are doing everything we can for our community and our small business, so just call or message and we’ll get the vouchers out to you.

Most importantly, keep safe all of you. xx

Temporary Closure

Dear Customers and Friends,

It is with a heavy heart that we have decided to temporarily close the Tearooms from Tuesday, 17th March until further notice. This follows the advice of the Prime Minister and Chief Medical Officer that everyone should avoid all non-essential social contact in order to slow the spread of Covid-19.

We don’t feel in view of government advice that it is morally justifiable to encourage social mixing, which would be in direct contradiction to the advice being given. The health of our customers, friends, team and family is of the utmost importance to us. We are doing our best to keep all those close to us safe and trying to protect our loyal customers as well.

Although this is a difficult business decision, we understand the Government’s measures to reduce the risk to those at ‘high risk’ and the burden on the NHS. We feel obligated to support any measures that helps to achieve this

For the many valuable customers who have pre-existing bookings over the next two weeks, we will be contacting you within 48 hours.

We have been touched by people’s generosity in terms of wanting to postpone rather than cancel and generally support us as a small business. As you know the Tearooms has a great reputation as an important community hub. We, therefore, intend to launch a community video link to continue with community interaction and ensure anyone in need of help has the facility to ask for it.

As always, Nigel and I are committed to helping anyone who needs it and are available should any assistance be needed.

We hope it is not too long before we re-open our doors and welcome you back. We will post regular updates and no doubt talk to a lot of you over the forthcoming weeks. Most of all, please look after yourselves in these unchartered and unexpected times.

Sarah & the team. x
