With the build up to the festive season approaching, it’s time to announce our Annual Christmas Preview Event. On Tuesday 29th October we will be opening the doors at 9.30 to a newly re-stocked and sparkly winter grotto of gorgeous gifts, seasonal home ware and beautiful decorations – and to celebrate this brand new season, we are opening into the evening to offer you Christmas canapés, candlelight and complimentary mulled wine to ease you into the festive spirit!

Please come along and enjoy a beautiful festive evening at Brewery Tea Room. There will also be the opportunity to support our on-going charity work by purchasing a Christmas Raffle Ticket helping to raise funds for the new-build Macmillan Cancer Unit at Lister Hospital.

A Vintage Success

Macmillan2013

We are delighted to announce that our Fundraising Total for Macmillan last Friday 27th September raised £3,365.65, exceeding the amount we raised last year…..again!

Your generosity was endless, from donating raffle prizes and purchasing raffle tickets to donating your unwanted gifts for our garden sale. Thank you to everyone who gave up their time to man stalls, sell raffle tickets and doing the washing up.

For those of you who couldn’t make it on the day, our theme this year was ‘Vintage’, giving us all an excuse to dress up. Some of the attractions included a garden sale, silent auction, a hand-turned music organ, vintage hair and make-up, and wonderful cupcakes and cappuccinos.

We’re very happy that the monies raised this year will go directly to help build the innovative new Macmillan Cancer Centre at The Lister Hospital, in the heart of our community. Thanks again to all our kind-hearted customers who supported the event and contributed to this worthwhile cause.

We have two items this year in the auction, both would make a lovely Christmas gift for the man in your life!

Come and bid for a four ball golf day or an hour-long clay pigeon shoot. Place your sealed bids on the day and you could be the lucky winner of one of our fantastic prizes!

Blue Sky Charity Tri’

imageThe picturesque harbour of Wells Next the Sea welcomed 280 participants to the North Norfolk Olympic-distance triathlon on Sunday 8th September 2013. Nigel Strongitharm and Nick Henry gave up a day of sunny seaside picnics in order to raise money for the new Macmillan Cancer Unit at Lister Hospital. With the sun rising at 7.15 early registration began, there was just time for some last minute bicycle adjustments before the participants lined up on the pontoon to begin the one mile swim. In just under half an hour the first leg was completed by both Nick and Nigel who then swapped wetsuits for bicycles and embarked on the 25 mile route through the idyllic local villages. Soon back in the transition area after a very quick leg there was just time to rehydrate before setting off on a sunny, sandy six and a half mile run across the beaches of Wells and Holkham. Nick completed his first triathlon in 2 hours 54 minutes and Nigel’s finish time was 2 hours 40, beating his previous time by 8 minutes. Then it was time for a beer outside a sunny Wells pub to celebrate the achievement. Close to £2000 has already been raised via our justgiving page and donations are still coming in. If you would like to donate to this cause, there is still time, the address is: http://www.justgiving.com/Brewerytearooms  This kicks off our fundraising season for this worthwhile charity, with the next event on 27th Sept – our Macmillan Fundraising Day at the Tea Room. Please join us if you can and thank you for all your support so far.

Charity Bicycle Ride News and French Conversation Group

Charity Bicycle RideA team of five from Brewery Tea Room completed the forty mile course of the St Albans Rotary Charity Cycle Ride on Sunday 19th May in under four hours. In doing so over £500 was raised by our customers and friends. We are truly grateful for your generous donations towards Marie Curie Cancer Care, Herts Air Ambulance and Radlett Lodge.

We hope to have a bigger team taking part next year and would love for you to
join us on the ride!

Following on from the recent visit by the Lanvallay group, we noticed that there are a lot of French speakers in the village who may want to join a French conversation group and have a conversation over a cup of coffee. We are proposing to start a small group on Tuesday mornings from 9.30 ’til 11, which will be hosted by a charming French lady. Cost will be determined by numbers but it will be a nominal charge. Don’t be shy, come and join us! Places are limited so let us know if you’re interested, we’re ideally looking for speakers of a basic/intermediate level. We hope to start very soon, in time for your summer visits to la belle France!
